This is one course that sees the highest cut-offs in Delhi University and gets the most number of applications every year. BCom ( honours) is offered in 54 colleges and attracts the brightest minds, if marks are any standard. The first cut-off for BCom (honours) does not go below 90% in most colleges and a score above 95% is considered safe to make it to north campus. A natural progression for commerce students, BCom (honours) opens a plethora of opportunities — a reason why the demand for this course only goes up every year.

Eligibility: Students from any stream can apply provided they have studied maths in class XII. A few colleges may admit students in BCom (honours) even without mathematics but at a higher cut-off.

BCom (honours) is a more specialized course than BCom. It was revised four years ago and has around 19 papers in three years plus project work. First year students study papers such as business organization and management, financial accounting, microeconomics, business law, business statistics, and even politics, ethics and social responsibility of business. Second year has papers on corporate accounting, cost accounting and business mathematics.

Road ahead: A graduate in commerce from a well-known college can expect to get placed at managerial positions in various sectors at an average annual salary package of Rs 5 lakh. Those who want to study further, chartered accountancy is a popular option. Teachers suggest it is better to do CA after BCom (honours). They say that studying for CA alongside can get really taxing as it requires articleship which cannot be done while attending classes for BCom (honours). ''Many students prefer taking up managerial positions in finance, taxation, HR and other sectors, work for some time and then go for an MBA. A lot depends on the placement cell of the college,'' said Jawa.
